Benzoin Essential Oil

benzoin-leavesThis oil has been used in religious ceremonies for centuries. The essential oil is extracted from a thick resin from the Benzoin tree. For centuries benzoin has been used throughout Asia as incense and perfume. It may serve as a disinfectant and antidepressant. The essential oil is often used in soaps because of its aroma. This oil blends well with many other essential oils such as coriander, frankincense, ginger, juniper, lemon, myrrh, rose, and sandalwood.

Botanical Name: Styrax benzoin / Styrax tonkinensis
Aroma Description: creamy, rich, slightly woody, warm, vanilla
Properties: Anti-Inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic, astringent, carminative, cordial, deodorant, diuretic, expectorant, sedative, styptic, vulnerary
Uses: The aroma from this oil can be calming and grounding.
