This essential oils is primarily obtained through steam distilling the resin. The oil is yellow in color and has a smell similar to garlic. Asafetida was used as a nerve stimulant to treat neurasthenia in Chinese medicine. It is used in India medicine to help stimulate the brain. It may help reduce symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, coughs, constipation, flatulence, and hysteria. The herb can reach 10 feet high or around 3 meters. Ayurvedic medicine suggests Asafoetida oil provides relief from nervous disorders, bowel spasms, colic, and for spasmodic coughing due to whooping cough, pneumonia, bronchitis, etc.
